Editoria11y Accessibility Checker

tooltip indicator with icons and a number

Editoria11y Accessibility Checker is a quality assurance tool built to assist editors with creating accessible content. Logged in users will see an indicator in the bottom right of their pages that let them know if there are content accessibility concerns such as missing alt tags, skipped headings, empty headings and links and general quality assurance. This is a great way to assist editors with making their content accessible.

For users wanting to make sure older content is accessible, there is an admin view that will list items in each page all in one place.

Editors can choose to ignore issues for themselves or mark them as “Ok” for all users. They can also choose to hide alerts from the page so it does not get in the way of design review.

Alerts (in red) cannot be ignored and should be fixed.

mark as ignored, mark as ok, 6 similar actions

Note that the plugin will flag items that were set intentionally, such as a missing alt tag for a decorative image. It is fine to mark those items as ignored or OK. This plugin is strictly to help you review your content and does not necessarily mean there are errors.

If there is an embed on your page or code coming from a plugin that we have no control over, we can choose to ignore the section. Contact the Tech Team for assistance on this. For example, a Google Map embed will come up with warnings that we cannot fix. If we can target a class to ignore, the warnings will be hidden.

If there is an alert or warning that is flagged and it seems to be a feature in BirdPress, please let the Tech Team know.
